Tips on Creating EBook Covers

Like what they always say, “Appearances matter.” This is what most eBook makers fail to remember. They always overlook the importance of eBook covers. They make a book and then tuck it away, completely forgetting about covers and their importance. It would add bonus points if your cover appeals to people. Obviously, people will go for a book that has a beautiful cover rather than for a book which has no cover at all. A book without cover is like a food without packaging.

In order to create an appealing eBook cover, you may go to a bookstore observe which book covers attract their attention. You can also look at other eBooks, not to copy them but to make them as an example or model, to get the factors that you think appeal to buyers, and to develop your own cover based on your observations.

Once you have determined what you really want, you can start building your cover in your mind. If you cannot do a cover alone, talk to an expert and explain to him what you want to do with your eBook cover. You may also want to draw your intended cover for your book because having a concrete copy is always good in case of forgetting some details. Not to mention that writers or publishers and eBook designers oftentimes have a difficult time understanding and explaining to each other what must be done to the cover they are working on. Samples will save both parties from that headache.

When you know what to do, it is time to make your ecover. Remember that you must not overdo your cover because it will not give good effect. Remove all unnecessary elements on your design. Your cover must be simple and direct to the point. Treat your cover as a form of promotion. Put only the things that will tell the buyers what the book is all about in just one glance. Your cover is the representation of your book. Do not put things that have no connection with the contents of your book. Make your ecover design appealing. Use bright colors so they will attract peoples’ attention. Pick you images carefully.

You should take time choosing and making your eBook cover although making covers does not often take time. Being hands on with the project is good. Remember that you and the experts are different people. You do not have the same brains and ideas so you must cooperate fully so will not get dissatisfied in the end.

As a summary, gather information on how you want your cover to look like. Then, if you do not know how to make your own cover, look for a specialist and discuss with him what you want. Choose details that will attract people but remember also that your cover must be simple enough to be beautiful and must serve as the book’s summary. Always remember, appearances do matter.
